Friendcom FC-301/D Data Radio
It took more than a year of work, but with the cooperation of Friendcom in China we're now able to offer affordable, 9600 baud capable, frequency-agile 5-watt transceivers for both the 2 meter and 70 centimeter bands. A mini-DIN adapter cable is available for easy hookup to common packet TNCs. You can order the UHF version here and VHF version here. The VHF version has CE and FCC Part 90 certifications for commercial use from 136 to 174 MHz.
Puxing PX-777 VHF Handheld Radio
We first encountered the PX-777 at a trade show in Hong Kong and fell in love. Out of dozens of handheld radios on display, it was clearly the best suited for amateur radio use, despite having been designed for the professional market. This same radio sells elsewhere under a more pronounceable brand name for more than twice our price, and it compares favorably with more expensive Japanese models. The radio ships with a 1200 mAh Li-ion battery, but at a total of 8 ounces (227 grams) it weighs 1/3 less than the comparably-sized VX-150 despite having 70% more battery capacity. You can order the PX-777 from the online store, which also has complete product details and a quick-start guide. Regular and extended batteries for the PX-777 are also available.
SRB MX146 Transmitter
The MX146 is an embeddable VHF transmitter module, made in the USA by SRB Electronics. It's programmable for any frequency from 144 to 148 MHz in 2.5 kHz steps, or you can use it on one of 16 pre-programmed frequencies. Power output is 500 mW minimum, and typically closer to 850 mW. It draws under 1 mA in standby, has a fast wake-up time (< 25 ms) and is suitable for voice or data with bitrates up to 10 kbps or more. The MX146 makes a perfect low-power APRS tracker transmitter, and its weight is perfect for high altitude balloon payloads, model rockets, and R/C craft. You can order the SRB MX146 from the online store, which also has product specifications and a link to product support.
